Midwest Faculty Seminar – Policies for Knox Faculty

The Midwest Faculty Seminar provides opportunities for faculty from colleges throughout the Midwest to meet at the University of Chicago to discuss new research, re-read canonical works, and confront big questions that stretch across all disciplines of the liberal arts and sciences. Participants from Knox consistently praise the seminars for stimulating teaching and research through serious and mutually supportive dialogue. Seminars run from Thursday through Saturday and offer participants free time in Hyde Park and access to the University of Chicago libraries.

The first seminar on gDigital Humanitiesh will be held November 14-16, 2013. A full schedule for the seminar will be available in mid September.

Full details of this yearfs four seminar topics and dates are available at the MFS website:

Knox Policies: In a typical year, Knox can send a total of eight participants over the four seminars. If you are interested in any of the seminars this year, please let Assoc. Dean for Fac. Dev. Michael Schneider know of your interest.@

About two months before each seminar, we will receive the final seminar schedule including list of speakers and will issue a final call for applicants for that seminar. Final selection of participants will be made by the Dean of the College five weeks before each seminar.

The seminars are funded by contributions from the member colleges and the Mellon Foundation. Most of your expenses, including hotel and some meals, will be paid directly by the MFS. In addition, Knox Faculty Development will provide a stipend of $110 to cover the cost of round trip rail travel and additional meals not provided by the seminar.@
