Fair Use and Free Coffee - TeLeTT Cafe Returns This Week!

TeLeTT Cafe = Teaching and Learning Through Technology + Coffee

We are delighted to invite all faculty to visit the TeLeTT Cafe on Wednesday and Thursday, October 21-22. TeLeTT Cafe is a low-investment, high-reward, caffeine-fueled presentation about some feature of technology-aided instruction. Presentations are brief (15-20 minutes), the kind of presentation you would hear over a cup of coffee, which is also provided (along with tea and hot cocoa).

Please stop by one of TeLeTT Cafes next week. The topic will be:

"Navigating Fair Use of Copyrighted Material for Your Courses"

When and how can you use copyrighted material in your courses? Strict rules do not exist, but there are guidelines and checklists that instructors can use to assess whether their use falls within "fair use." In addition, the Library has considerable access to licensed material that renders most concerns moot. Stop by the TeLeTT Cafe at a location near you to meet with one of your reference librarians, explore a "Fair Use" checklist, and have a cup of joe.

Wednesday, October 21 - "Fall Institute"

10:00-10:30 AM - SMC E117

11:00-11:30 AM - GDH 105

Thursday, October 22

10:00-10:30 AM - Alumni Room, Old Main

11:00-11:30 AM - CFA Workspace (old Admissions suite)

The College's Statement on "Copyright and Fair Use at Knox College" is here.

Accessing the Chronicle (and other Library Subscriptions) Off Campus

The Faculty Development Newsletter and many other campus emails make reference to articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education, especially in the heat of educational reform and strategic planning. Although these articles are easily accessible while on campus, some articles may be limited to subscribers when viewed off campus. Not to worry. You can read Chronicle and other subscription-based journals easily through the Library's proxy login.

Just go to the Library's Resources and Services page. Follow the "Tools & Resources" drop-down to the resource you need. The Proxy login window will appear immediately.
