Author Ander Monson will read from his own works at 4 p.m., Friday, May 20, in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The reading is free and open to the public.
A 1997 Knox graduate, Monson has won acclaim for both his poetry and fiction. His collection of short stories, "Other Electricities," received a Starred Review in Publisher's Weekly, and is extended with a web site of his own design, www.otherelectricities.com. His newly published collection of poems, "Vacationland," received the Tupelo Press Editors Prize in Poetry.
Monson is an editor for Del Sol Press, Climate Controlled, DIAGRAM, and the New Michigan Press. He is currently on the faculty of Grand Valley State University in Michigan.
After graduating from Knox, Monson completed master's degrees at Iowa State University and the University of Alabama. While at Knox, he sang in the Knox College Choir, was an editor of Catch, and winner of a Davenport writing award from Knox.
The reading is sponsored by the John and Elaine Fellowes Fund and the A. Eugene and Ella Stewart Davenport Literary Awards.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 46 states and 41 nations. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
