Comedian Stephen Colbert delivered the Commencement address at Knox College on Saturday, June 3, 2006. As is tradition, Colbert was awarded an honorary degree. Colbert hosts his own show on Comedy Central network, The Colbert Report, which spoofs pretentious, personality-driven political commentary programs.
Also receiving honorary degrees at Commencement were Shirley E. Barnes, Career Foreign Service Officer, U.S. State Department; Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Wikipedia Foundation; and Diane Smatlak Rosenberg '63, outgoing chair of the Knox College Board of Trustees. The senior class speaker was Brent Jacob Aronowitz.
