Research in the Physics Department

Students at Knox have many opportunities to get involved in the pursuit of new knowledge in physics.  What distinguishes research from classroom-based learning is
that the questions themselves are not known!  This is the exciting forefront of science, something that is usually not experienced until graduate school.  The chance to
experience it in college gives Knox students the chance to "try out" physics as a possible career, while developing their independence and demonstrating their abilities
to apply what they know to challenging "real-world" problems that must be solved.  Research is an integral part of the study of physics at Knox.

We take pride in our research groups at Knox.  All of us are active and publishing in the top journals in our fields, often with student co-authors.  Our facilities rival
those at research-focussed universities in quality.  And we achieve this work while placing the education of our students at the top of our priority list.  Visit the pages
for each research group to find out what we've been doing and what you might get involved with.
